Nonverbal Communication
a 1-day workshop with Saara Rei
"The gestures we make, the position in which we hold our bodies, the expressions we wear on our faces and the nonverbal qualities of our speech – all contribute to how others view us."

Verbal communication is only a small fraction of how we interact with one another. Most of what we communicate happens beneath the surface - through movement, tension, posture, gesture, facial expression, and other subtle, nonverbal cues.
But how does nonverbal communication actually work? And how can we become more aware of it - more fluent in it - especially in something as physically intimate and emotionally charged as rope?
Body-based practices such as dance, martial arts, theater, massage, and sport all offer tools for developing bodily awareness. They teach us how to attune to our own bodies and how to listen to the bodies of others. From predicting where a ballerina will leap in order to catch them midair, to sensing the next move of an opponent in a sparring match, these disciplines sharpen our ability to read intention, energy, and direction without words.
In this workshop, we’ll draw from a variety of these practices through a series of guided exercises designed to enhance your sensitivity to nonverbal signals. You’ll learn how to recognize what another person’s body is expressing and how to respond to it with greater clarity, intention, and presence.
Whether you're a rigger or a bottom, this workshop is about deepening your connection through the quiet, powerful language of the body.
